Dhaka-17 constituency by-polls independent candidate Ashraful Hossain Alam, popularly known as Hero Alom, has got back his candidacy.

Ashoke Kumar Debnath, additional secretary of Election Commission, confirmed the decision while talking to reporters at the commission office in Agargaon on Thursday (June 22) afternoon.

Earlier on June 18, returning Officer Md Monir Hossain Khan cancelled the nomination papers of eight candidates, including Hero Alam.

Hero Alam filed an appeal with the election commission on June 20. 

The constituency fell vacant following the death of actor Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooque.

Hero Alom also declared his candidacy for the Bogra-4 constituency in the upcoming 12th national parliamentary election.

He also took part in the by-elections to Bogra-4 and Bogra-6 seats held in February.
