At least 12 local leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist party (BNP) and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) in Tangail's Dhanbari upazila were injured in an attack allegedly by Chhatra League and Jubo League early today (July 12).

Tangail's Dhanbari upazila JCD Member Secretary Md Saiful Islam Confirmed the matter. 

They were on their way to the BNP rally in the capital's Nayapaltan when their microbus was stopped in Nagda Shimla area of Gopalpur upazila around 3:00am.

BNP's Dhanbari upazila President Azizur Rahman said that both Chhatra League and Jubo League people then attacked the leaders and activists and also vandalized the vehicle. 

The injured were first rushed to the Dhanbari Upazila Health Complex and many were later referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. 

BNP has started its rally in front of its central office at Nayapaltan in the capital today. 

The rally started around 2:00 pm. The party is holding the rally to kick off their one-point movement for forcing the government to hold the next parliamentary polls under an election-time caretaker government.
