The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested six leaders of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on allegations of planning sabotage.

The detainees are as Dhaka University Chhatra Dal Senior Joint General Secretary Mominul Islam aka Jisaan, 31, Joint General Secretary Md Abdullah R Riyad, 29, Vice-President Md. Hasanur Rahman aka Hasan, 32 , Private University Chhatra Dal former deputy general secretary Mohammad Arif Billah, 30, Chhatra Dal Central Committee Co-Organising Secretary Md Shahadat Hossain, 31, and Jahangirnagar University Chhatra Dalf former senior joint general secretary Zahir Uddin Mohammad Babar, 32.

DB Joint Commissioner (North) Khandkar Nurunnabi confirmed the matter during a press release held at the DMP Media Centre on Sunday (August 20).

They were nabbed with three firearms and 36 rounds of ammunition, said Khandkar Nurunnabi.

Their objective was to disrupt the upcoming national elections by creating instability and fear through acts of anarchy and terrorism, he said.

He also said that two cases have been filed against the arrestees under the Arms and Special Powers Act.
