BNP’s Cumilla-Chattogram road march begins today

The opposition BNP is set to organize a road march from Cumilla to Chattogram this morning (October 5), as part of its one-point movement to topple the government.

Leaders and activists of neighbouring Chandpur, Noakhali, and Feni districts will also join the road march.

Cumilla unit BNP, being the central organizational divisional branch of the party, has witnessed a surge in enthusiasm among its leaders and activists.

The road march will start at 9am in front of a hotel at Kalakochua in Cumilla on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the party's secretary general, will address the chief guest at the event while BNP standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury will be there as the main speaker.

In preparation for the road march, local BNP leaders are conducting a series of meetings, and posters, banners, and festoons have been prominently displayed at various locations.

South district BNP joint convener Sarwar Jahan Dolan and former president of Mahanagar Swecchashebak Dal Nizam Uddin Kaiser said that the 105 km area of the highway from Daudkandi to Chauddagram will be covered by the people on Thursday.

As part of a simultaneous movement demanding the resignation of the Awami League government and elections under a neutral caretaker government, the BNP declared a 15-day program till Thursday.

The party has already held seven road marches – Faridpur to Madaripur, Rangpur to Dinajpur, Bogura to Rajshahi, Bhairab to Sylhet, Barisal to Pirojpur, Jhenaidah to Khulna, and Mymensingh to Kishoreganj -- as parts of their September 19 –October 5 continuous programmes across Bangladesh.

The party also held several rallies in Dhaka and its adjacent areas to press home the same demands.

The Cumilla to Chattogram road march is set to be the last program of the party.
