BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed returned home on Sunday (August 11) after spending over nine years in India’s Shillong.
He arrived at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 2:15 pm.
Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP's media cell, confirmed the matter.
Earlier on March 10, 2015, Salahuddin Ahmed was forcibly taken from his home in Uttara, Dhaka, by individuals claiming to be from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and other law enforcement agencies.
Later, he was then seen aimlessly wandering in India two months later.
After his rescue, a case was filed against him in India for illegal entry.
This legal proceeding lasted for over three and a half years, concluding on August 13, 2018.
He was acquitted of the charges of illegal entry on October 26, 2018, by the court.
Later, the Indian government appealed against the court's decision.
On February 28, 2023, Salahuddin Ahmed was acquitted by the judge's court in Shillong.
