No political party under anti-discrimination student movement banner: Sarjis

Sarjis Alam, a key coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, assured that no political party will be formed under banner Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

He also clarified that members of the movement may choose to engage in politics or form a party under a different name, such choices are their democratic rights.

He made these remarks at a discussion held at the Madaripur Municipality Conference Room on Friday (Oct 25) around 11 a.m., attended by students from the movement and family members of victims.

Sarjis stated, “The question remains whether we will eventually shift to a political platform, and this is still up for discussion. However, since the August Revolution, conspiracies are escalating in the country. We cannot afford to split; division will only weaken us, allowing fascists to reclaim ground. While Sheikh Hasina may have fled, she did not take her entire party along; some remain, and if we are not vigilant, they could come back.”

He further noted that since August 5, many "fake coordinators" have appeared, acting opportunistically. “These imposters have always shown self-serving tendencies and will continue to do so. If we do not separate them from the group, they will misuse the title of coordinator and tarnish our image,” he warned, citing similar issues already emerging in other districts.

Sarjis also guided students on how to establish unity among district coordinators under a single platform. Several coordinators from Dhaka, along with members of the anti-discrimination movement in Madaripur and families of victims, attended the discussion.
