BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that the interim government is attempting to get support by invoking the threat of the one-eleven.
He made these remarks during a prayer meeting in Nayapaltan on Saturday, January 25.
The Milad and prayer session, organized by Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP, marked the 10th death anniversary of Arafat Rahman Koko.
Rizvi claimed that the interim government’s tactics of intimidation, using the 1/11 as leverage, would not be effective.
He also said that the people want transparent elections that reflect the views of all, something ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has prevented.
According to Rizvi, the BNP has endured through continuous struggle.
He further accused a group of spreading propaganda to damage BNP’s image, reaffirming that the party has always advocated for free and fair elections and the restoration of voting rights.
This stance, he said, would continue in the future. He likened the current government’s actions to the shadows of the 1/11 regime.
Rizvi also said that local elections were once part of an international master plan. He reflected on the government's origin from the student movement and the sacrifices of blood, expressing hope that it would meet the people's expectations.
However, he criticized the government's failure to implement necessary reforms, highlighting the country's economic decline and the closure of factories.
He said that the government was neglecting public welfare, and that BNP believes only fair elections can sustain democracy. BNP would engage with political parties and take legal action if needed, he added.
Rizvi acknowledged the contributions of political parties and students, rejecting any attempts to accept the actions of civil society as authoritative.
Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP Convener Rafiqul Alam Majnu, Member Secretary Tanvir Ahmed Robin, and other leaders and activists attended the event.
