The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested former Sirajganj-3 MP Md Abdul Aziz from Dhaka’s Kalabagan.
According to the RAB’s legal and media wing, Aziz was detained in connection with an attempt-to-murder case filed at Tarash Police Station in Sirajganj on Monday night.
Sheikh Hasina, the ousted prime minister, left for India on August 5 last year following a mass movement. After the interim government was formed two days later, several high-profile leaders, including Awami League ministers and state ministers, were arrested.
The RAB disclosed Aziz’s arrest nearly six months after the incident.
Aziz was elected as an Awami League MP from Sirajganj-3 (Raiganj-Tarash) in both the 11th and 12th parliamentary elections. He also served as the president of the Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad’s Shishu Hospital unit, a pro-Awami League medical association.
