Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to hold separate meetings with the opposition parties BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami on Saturday (May 24) evening.

According to sources, Dr Yunus will meet with BNP representatives at 7:30 p.m. at the Jamuna residence, followed by a meeting with Jamaat-e-Islami at 8:00 p.m.

BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said the party would announce its decision regarding participation in the meeting at a later time.

Jamaat-e-Islami had earlier requested an appointment with the chief adviser. The meeting was confirmed verbally by the Chief Adviser’s Office on Saturday night, Jamaat’s Naib-e-Amir Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher told reporters.

Taher said the party would discuss the ongoing political developments with Dr Yunus.

Party sources indicated that Jamaat does not support calls for the resignation of the chief adviser. Instead, it favours holding the next general election under Dr Yunus’s leadership.

Previously, Jamaat Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman had urged the chief adviser to convene an all-party dialogue to address the current political crisis.

The meetings are expected to cover a range of issues, including the political situation, electoral process, judicial matters, reforms, and efforts to rebuild unity among parties involved in the July mass movement.
