BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today said the interim government missed an opportunity to prepare the FY2025–26 budget through dialogue with political parties and civil society.
Speaking at a post-budget press conference at BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office, he said, “In the absence of a parliament or democratic government, there should have been minimum consensus. Dialogue on the budget was expected in this special situation.”
He criticised the Tk7,90,000 crore budget as "uncoordinated" and said it would increase financial pressure on people, reduce production and employment, and create discrimination through black money whitening schemes.
Khasru also said that imposing taxes on the education sector was unjust, promising that a future BNP government would waive such taxes.
BNP Standing Committee members Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Selima Rahman, Chairperson's Adviser Ismail Zabiullah, Finance Affairs Secretary Engineer Khaled Hossain Mahbub Shyamal, Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan and Chairperson's Press Wing member Shamsuddin Didar, among others, were also present at the press conference.
