DHAKA: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami now in the relief mood as incumbent and former law ministers is giving contradictory remarks about war crimes verdict and punishment of Jamaat.

Recently, law minister Anisul Haque said it is impossible to execute Jamaat as a political party in the existing law. 

International Crimes Tribunal and Appellate Division of the Supreme Court keep the verdict of Motiur Rahman Nizami and appeal verdict of Delawar Hossain Sayedee in hanging.

This stance of the government has given the Jamaat relief from tension as the party was in a devastating condition politically.

Furthermore, government do not file case and arrest any more Jamaat leader for committing crimes during country’s Liberation War.

On the other hand, former law minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed said that there in no scope to debate about the subjudice matter of the tribunal. Tribunal will decide whether Jamaat will be punished or not.

Terming pass any comment about any under trial matter as hinder, the former minister said court should be given to work freely.

As two law ministers locked into verbal conflict, Jamaat is having comfortable breath by taking the advantages of the conflict.

It thinks present law minister does not take any controversial step in the war crimes and Jamaat issues.

Barrister Shafique Ahmed made the amendment of law of International Crimes Tribunal on February 17, 2013 to punish Jamaat as an organization for committing crimes against humanity.

The investigation works to punish Jamaat has already been completed. Prosecution is now scrutinizing the matter. But an internal feud has created in the prosecution about the matter.

As a result, Jamaat is taking the advantage of the situation and it thinks that it will not fall any danger as law minister will take step as per the law.

Besides, it will not take part any anti-government movement if the government does not go ahead about trial of war criminals and Jamaat.

Senior leaders of the party claimed that after January 5 polls, the situation for Jamaat totally comfortable. So, party will not do any work which will affect this condition.

Tazul Islam, a member of Jamaat panel lawyers in the tribunal, said the comments passed by law minister are realistic. He will do everything abide by the rules.
