Ex-Jamaat MP detained on war crimes

DHAKA: Former lawmaker of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Sakhawat Hossain was detained on charge of war crimes committed during the Liberation War in 1971.

Law enforcers detained him from city’s Uttara area on Saturday evening.

Sources told banglanews that police detained the ex-MP from his rental house adjacent to Master-para Shahi Masjid in Uttarkhan in city’s Uttara area.

Uttarkhan Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Yunus Ali said that the law enforcers detained Sakhawat around 7:15pm.

“He has been hiding himself there since October,” he said. International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) is investigating into the case of former Jamaat MP’s involvement with war crimes, he added.
