DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday claimed defense war turned into liberation war in 1971 after late President Ziaur Rahman had proclaimed.

The BNP chief made the remark while addressing a rally organized by Muktijoddha Dal marking victory day at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in the city in the evening.

She said the people from all walks of life participated in the liberation war. But after achieving independence, a particular party tried to highlight the success in the war as their own.

However, the victory was not an achievement by any party, it was national achievement, she observed.

Khaleda Zia also said they would provide all the facilities to the freedom fighters if her party is voted to power.
