DHAKA: Law enforcers detained at least 99 people including 36 BNP-Jamaat men in Meherpur, Chittagong, Jessore and Manikganj districts on Wednesday.
In Meherpur, police detained 17 activists of BNP and its key ally Jamaat-e-Islami in different areas of the district.
Among the detainees, 16 were from BNP while one from Jamaat.
Meherpur police super (SP) Hamidul Alam told banglanews that they held the people under 151-section.
The detainees will be sent to jail after being produced before the court, the SP added.
Moreover, nine leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-Shibir were held in nightlong drives conducted across Chittagong district.
Among the detainees, 6 were from Jamaat, 2 from its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir and one from BNP.
Confirming the matter to banglanews, Chittagong district additional police super (Special Branch) Mohammad Naimul Hasan said that the anti-violence drives will continue to avert any untoward situation in the district.
In Manikganj, police nabbed six BNP activists in overnight drives from different parts of the district.
District Special Branch sub-inspector (SI) Abdul Baten told banglanews that they were held on suspicion of creating violence and legal action will be taken against them.
However, at least 67 people including four BNP men were held in Jessore in drives conducted from Tuesday midnight to Wednesday morning.
Jessore district police control room said the detainees, who are accused in different cases, will be sent to the court.
