SYLHET: BNP affiliated Jatiyatabadi Sechchasebak Dal called a daylong hartal in Sylhet on Saturday.

The shutdown was called as a protest of police firing on the party’s Thursday rally and injuring 17 of its leaders and activists.

A press release signed by district unit Sechchasebak Dal joint-convener Maududul Haque confirmed the matter on Thursday night.

Central Sechchasebak Dal vice-president and also Sylhet district unit BNP joint-convener Advocate Samsuzzaman, Sylhet city Sechchsebak Dal convener Farhad Chowdhury Shamim, district unit Sechchsebak Dal senior joint-convener Nazim Uddin Laskar requested all to follow hartal.

Moreover, Sylhet district and city units of Jatiyatabadi Chhatradal lent its support to hartal.

Sylhet district Chhatradal president Sayeed Ahmed, general secretary Rahat Chowdhury Munna, city Chhatradal president Nurul Alam Siddique Khaled and general secretary Abu Saleh Lokman also supported the hartal program.
