DHAKA: The candidates for mayor, councilor and reserved councilor posts in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Sunday demanded army deployment in the upcoming city polls.

They placed the demand while exchanging views with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh auditorium in city’s Khamarbari area around 11:15am.

They also demanded monitoring poll campaigns, keeping the election free from influences of black money and muscle power and ensuring level playing field aiming to hold free and fair city polls.

Four other election commissioners and representatives from law enforcing agencies were also present at the meeting.

A total of 16 candidates for mayor post, 277 for councilor posts, and 88 for reserved councilor posts are contesting the DNCC polls, slated to be held on April 28.
