Law violators won’t be spared: CEC

DHAKA: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad on Sunday said law violators, irrespective of their identities, would not be spared for the sake of free and fair city elections.

The CEC issued the warning while exchanging views with candidates for mayor, councilor and reserved councilor posts in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh auditorium in city’s Khamarbari area around 11:15am.

“Maximum measure will be taken to ensure peaceful environment for city polls, slated to be held on April 28.” the CEC assured the candidates.

Addressing the law enforcers, the EC boss said, “You have to ensure that no candidate will face any kind of harassment centering the polls.”

All necessary measures, including army deployment, will be decided during the meeting with law enforcing agencies set to be held on April 19.

In the view exchange meeting, the CEC told the polling officers that they have to be careful to avert any kind of law violation during vote casting.

Kazi Rakibuddin urged the candidates for not violating electoral code of conduct. “You have to get chances for filing appeals against EC’s decision if necessary,” he added.
