Jamaat’s daylong hartal underway

DHAKA: The dawn-to-dusk hartal, enforced by Jamaat-e-Islami, is underway across the country on Monday without any reported incidents of subversive activities anywhere.

Vehicle movement remained normal in different areas of the country, including Dhaka. Scheduled exams and classes of educational Institutions are going on as usual.

On Saturday night, immediately after party leader Kamaruzzaman had been executed for war crimes, Jamaat-e-Islami called countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal for Monday.

War criminal Jamaat-e-Islami leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman was hanged earlier on Saturday night for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.

He was executed around 10:30pm in Dhaka Central Jail amid beefed up security.

In the press statement, Jamaat said that ambulance, freezer van, hospital and fire service vehicles will remain out of purview of hartal.
