DHAKA: The Election Commission (EC) will take action only against the specific allegations of electoral code of conduct violation.

Election Commissioner M Shahnewaz made the remark on Thursday in reply to different allegations against candidates of bifurcated Dhaka city corporations.

The commissioner said EC will only take the specific written allegations into cognizance, not verbal one.

In regard of dissatisfaction over election symbols, he said there was no chance to change the symbols as those are allotted already.

However, he added EC may reconsider application to change the symbol in response to an application with proper explanation.

The elections in Dhaka and Chittagong City corporations are scheduled to be held on April 28.
