DHAKA: Law enforcers in overnight drives arrested at least 130 people including 28 activists of BNP and its key ally Jamaat-Shibir in Chittagong and Jessore on Saturday.

Police arrested 57 people including 25 activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir from Lohagara upazila in Chittagong.

Police conducted the drives to arrest the people accused in several cases including vandalism and arson attacks.

District police special branch additional police super (SP) Muhammad Naimul Hasan told banglanews that among the arrestees 15 were from Jamaat, 10 from Shibir and the rest are accused in several cases.

Moreover, 54 liters of locally made liquor (cholai mod) were also seized during the drives.

Meanwhile, police nabbed three BNP activists in drives in Sitakunda upazila of the district.

In Jessore, police arrested 73 people including three activists of BNP and Shibir in drives conducted from Friday midnight to Saturday morning.

Jessore district police control room sources said that among the arrestees, two were from BNP and one from Shibir.
