DHAKA: BNP boycotts Dhaka North, Dhaka South and Chittagong City Corporations polls raising allegation of massive vote rigging and attack on their polling agents.
BNP standing committee member Maudud Ahmed made the announcement in a press briefing at its Nayapaltan central office on Tuesday.
Afroza Abbas, wife of BNP-backed mayoral candidate Mirza Abbas for Dhaka South City Corporation and Tabith Awal, BNP-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation were also present there.
Earlier, BNP-backed mayoral candidate for Chittagong City Corporation M Manjur Alam boycotted the election raising allegation of vote rigging.
Manjur, the adviser of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, also declared quitting politics.
He came up with the announcement at his main election office in port city’s Dewanhat area at 11:15am.
Amid tight security, voters started casting their ballots to elect new mayors of Dhaka North, Dhaka South and Chittagong City Corporations on Tuesday morning.
Voting that started at 8:00am will continue till 4:00pm.
