Khaleda Zia mourns Pintu’s death

DHAKA: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia expressed profound shock at the death of former BNP lawmaker Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu, who was serving life in prison for his involvement in 2009 BDR mutiny.

The BNP chief sent a condolence message to the media signed by her party’s international affairs secretary Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon Sunday evening.

In her message, Khaleda Zia said Pintu was transferred from Narayanganj to Rajshahi central jail on April 24 defying the High Court (HC) order to give him proper medical treatment.

Two days later, the former lawmaker was admitted to Rajshahi jail hospital.

The BNP chairperson alleged that Pintu died due to the negligence of the jail authorities.

Khaleda Zia prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to his bereaved family members.

Earlier, Pintu felt pain in his chest at Rajshahi jail. He was immediately taken to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) where on-duty doctor declared him dead at 12:20pm.

RMCH Director brigadier general AKM Nasir Uddin confirmed the matter to banglanews.
