RAJSHAHI: A high-powered three-member committee was formed to investigate into the death of former BNP lawmaker Nasiruddin Pintu.

The committee is asked to submit the report within May 7.

A competent source from Rajshahi central jail confirmed the matter to banglanews in the afternoon.

Dhaka divisional deputy inspector general (DIG) of prison Golam Haider was made chief of the probe committee while the two other members are senior jail super of Kashimpur Central Jail Mizanur Rahman and senior jail super of Mymensingh Iqbal Kabir Chowdhury.

Inspector General (Prison) Iftekhar Ahmed formed the committee to investigate whether there was any negligence from the jailor’s part in Pintu’s death and whether he (Pintu) was treated as per jail code.

The committee will also recommend punishment if any negligence is found.

Earlier on Sunday night (May 3), Pintu’s younger brother Nasim Uddin Rintu received his brother’s body from the jail authority.

The first namaz-e-janaza of former BNP leader was held at Hetem Khan Boro Mosque in the night.

His second namaj-e-janaza was held at 11:50am Monday in front of party’s central office in city’s Nayapaltan area.

However, the ex-MP was serving life in prison for his involvement in 2009 BDR mutiny.
