Anwar, Rizvi dropped from arson charge

DHAKA: Police on Monday submitted charge sheet against seven people and dropped the names of 31 BNP men including party standing committee member MK Anwar and joint secretary general Rizvi Ahmed in a case filed for an arson attack that killed a policeman in city during countrywide blockade and hartal.

However, the Swechhasebok Dal president Habibunnabi Khan Sohel and six other leaders and activists of the party were named in the charge sheet.

The chargesheet was placed before the court for signing of the magistrate on Monday.

Earlier on June 4, the chargesheet was submitted to the Chief Metropolitan Court of Dhaka.

Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam ordered to place the chargesheet before the court on June 22.

Police constable Shamim Mia, 25, was injured in a petrol bomb attack on a police vehicle near Matsya Bhaban in Dhaka on January 17.

He succumbed to his injuries after fighting for life for 20 days.
