DHAKA: People, who are ruling the nation, consider women as ‘showpiece’, commented BNP chairperson and also former premier Khaleda Zia.
The BNP chief made the comment at an iftar, organized by Bikalpa Dhara, at a city hotel on Monday evening.
She said that currently half of people in the country are women. But an important person termed women as ‘showpiece’ in the Parliament.
‘How people, who cannot respect women, rule the nation?’ Khaleda Zia made question.
She further said that the nation fought for independence to establish people’s basic rights and democracy.
‘We want to build a beautiful and promising nation through free and fair national elections,’ she added.
Bikalpa Dhara president AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, its joint secretary Mahi B Chowdhury, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) president ASM Abdur Rob, BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Gana Forum leader Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, among others, were present at the program.
