DHAKA: Ruling Awami League (AL) general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam on Tuesday asked the journalists not to pay heed to “rumors” about his removal from the cabinet.

He was talking to journalists at his residence in Kishoreganj district after a few hours of spreading a news item that said he was removed as Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) minister earlier in the day.

He also said ministry concerned did not inform him anything in this regard.

Earlier, a reliable source in the secretariat confirmed banglanews that Syed Ashraf was removed as LGRD minister.

The source also said that expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain will replace him as additional responsibility.
