DHAKA: The Supreme Court asked Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) to form a new medical board for the BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
A 4-member Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice SK Sinha passed the order on Thursday morning.
Earlier in the day, authorities of BSMMU submitted medical report of Mirza Fakhrul on his physical condition.
According to medical report, Mirza Fakhrul have such physical complexity that can be treated in the country, there is no need to go aboard.
The BSMMU was asked to submit medical report before the court on July 12.
The apex court also fixed July 13 for pronouncing verdict on government petitions seeking stay on the High Court order that granted bail to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam in three cases.
Attorney General Mahbuey Alam moved for Fakhrul while Supreme Court Lawyers Association president Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain stood for Mirza Fakhrul.
Earlier on June 21, Justice Mohammad Reza-ul Haque and Justice Mohammad Khasruzzaman of the High Court bench granted Fakhrul’s bail in three violence cases.
Paltan Thana police filed the cases on January 4 and 6 against the BNP leader for creating sabotage in Paltan area during BNP-led 20-party alliance called nationwide hartal.
On January 6, police arrested Fakhrul from the premises of National Press Club in city.
