BCC mayor Kamal among 44 sued

BARISAL: A case was filed against 44 including Barisal City Corporation (BCC) mayor Ahsan Habib Kamal, also a BNP leader, over allegations of corruption, threat and demanding bribe.

One Mosharraf Hossain Khan from C&B Road area in Barisal city filed the law suit with district court of senior special judge Anwarul Haque on Wednesday.

Later, Judge Anwarul Haque asked Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate the case.

The other accused include BCC chief executive officer Ranjit Kumar Roy, engineer Shahidul Islam and mayor’s APS Farid.

Case statement said on August 4, the city corporation evicted shops of plaintiff and 18 witnesses of the case without issuing any prior notice.

Besides, the defendants also looted products from the shops causing a loss of Tk 51 lakhs, the case statement added.

It further said the accused demanded bribe of a handsome amount of money to stop the eviction.
