Ivy Rahman's 11th death anniv Monday

DHAKA: The 11th death anniversary of Ivy Rahman, former women affairs secretary of Awami League (AL), is being observed on Monday with befitting manners.

Different political and socio-cultural organizations including Awami League (AL), its associate bodies have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day.

The programmes are-- placing wreaths and offering fateha at her (Ivy) Banani graveyard, arranging milad mahfil and special prayers, and holding discussions in the capital and elsewhere across the country.

A milad mahfil will be held at the Ivy Concord Tower at Gulshan-2 in the capital after Asr prayer.

Awami League will pay tributes to Ivy Rahman by placing wreaths at the Banani graveyard and offer fateha and doa seeking eternal peace of her departed soul.

On August 24 in 2004, Ivy Rahman, who was a victim of the August 21 grenade blasts, succumbed to her injuries at city’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

Ivy, wife of late President M Zillur Rahman, sustained serious injuries during a rally organized by Awami League, the then opposition party, on Bangabandhu Avenue.

At least 24 people, including AL women’s affairs secretary Ivy Rahman, were killed and at least 100 others injured in the attack.

The attack was apparently targeted Sheikh Hasina, the then opposition leader and now the incumbent Prime Minster, who nearly ended her speech on the rally’s temporary stage during the attack.
