DHAKA: Activities of some political miscreants in Malaysia have created image crisis of the country and also of the ruling Awami League (AL) through their involvement in extortion, human trafficking and manpower business.
Some policy makers of the ruling party, however, have denied any connections with these people who identified themselves as Awami Leaguers in Malaysia.
AL presidium member Nuh-Ul-Alam Lenin has categorically told banglanews that the constitution of the party does not allow existence of any front organization of the party abroad.
Violating party constitution, some opportunists are making gains in Malaysia. Though they do not have registration as political party in Malaysia or in Bangladesh, the incidents of extortion is open which damaging the image of the biggest political party, observed by the expatriates.
It is alleged that some are forming committees from Kuala Lumpur to the remote areas of Malaysia. In this connection, they are extorting the hard-earned MR from the half-educated and illiterate Bangladeshi workers.
It was claimed that the Awami League committee in Malaysia was announced on February 5. The convener of the committee Rezaul Karim Reza claimed that this 31-member committee was formed in Dhaka. President of parliamentary standing committee of Civil Aviation and Tourism Muhammad Faruq Khan signed the documents, he added.
Six were nominated as the joint convener of the committee. Rezaul Karim, who hailed from Magura, lives in Dhaka along with his family. In every few months he goes to Malaysia to join functions of the party committee of Malaysia.
It was widely publicized that the committee was given approval from Dhaka. Members of the committee started giving receptions to party leaders who visit Malaysia. Though the formation of the committee is questioned, this committee has established themselves as a legal one.
The Bangladeshi expatriates think this Malaysian Awami League is busier than Awami League in Bangladesh or any Malaysian political party. Whenever any AL leader comes to Kuala Lumpur airport, leaders and activists of this committee make appearances there with processions and chanting slogans. The airport authority has expressed dissatisfactions over the situations on several times. Still the political culture is going on.
Regarding the committee, Nuh-Ul-Alam Lenin also said that there is no official branch of Awami League in Malaysia. As per law there cannot be any branch. According the RPO of current Election Commission (EC) no political party can do it. As for example according to the law of UK, there may be UK Awami League or in France, France Awami League.
Regarding the signature given by Faruq Khan on a pad of Malaysian Awami League, Lenin further said that it is a personal matter. Probably he does not know the law properly. But as per law it cannot be done.
Lenin said that sometimes they attend functions if these front organizations invite them but these are not a part of Awami League.
AL deputy office secretary Mrinal Kanti Das said that there are thousands of branches of Awami League but these were not formed as per party constitution. Awami League has no branch abroad.
Regarding the sign of Faruq Khan, he said that if these people do politics abroad by that document we cannot stop their activities.
Upon contacted Faruq Khan, he told banglanews that with the object of forming a regular committee in Malaysia, a 31-member committee has been formed where I put my signature. It is also written there that a regular committee will be formed within six months. I hope that a regular committee will be formed within October.
According to the law of EC, there cannot be any branch organizations of the political parties but these are our ideological organizations but not official part.
When contacted some Malaysian political experts, they informed that the expatriates are strictly forbidden to form any political organizations. If this is done for long they are supposed to face trial as per law.
Admitting the fact of using Malaysia Awami League pad Rezaul Karim Reza said there is no branch of Awami League in Malaysia.
However, we the followers of Bangabandhu have named it Awami League, Malaysia. As the party constitution does not allow any branch of the party abroad so we the followers of Bangabandhu have formed Malaysia Awami League like London Awami League, New York Awami League.
However, about Malaysia Awami League pad he said that it might be old one.
