BNP terms IRI report ‘conflicting’

DHAKA: BNP termed the US research organization International Republican Institute (IRI) report as ‘conflicting’.

The party reiterated their demand of a free and fair national election soon as the report said the popularity of incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has increased.

BNP spokesperson Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon made the comment at a press conference at party central office in city’s Nayapaltan area on Saturday noon.

Pointing to the part of PM’s popularity in the report, Ripon said that around 2,500 participants of the survey demanded caretaker government and immediate national election.

According to the BNP spokesperson, a free and fair national election is the scale to justify popularity.

The election will prove that whether popularity of the incumbent government has increased or not, Ripon added.

Calling the ruling Awami League to arrange immediate national election under impartial caretaker government, the BNP leader commented that if the report is correct, I think the incumbent government has no reason to be defeated in the election.
