JHENAIDAH: Unidentified assailants hacked a local leader of Jubo Dal, the youth wing of BNP, to death at Royra Bazar in Shailkupa Thana of the district on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Abu Zafar , 47, son of Mahtab Uddin of Taminagar village and president of Umedpur UP unit Jubo Dal.

When contacted, Shailkupa Thana officer-in-charge (OC) MA Hashem Khan told banglanews that five to six criminals chopped Abu Zafar with lethal weapons around 10:00pm while returning home from Royera Bazar, leaving him injured critically.

Later, the attackers cut tendons of his two legs and fled the spot.

Locals rushed him to Shailkupa Hospital and then doctors sent him to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital.

Drives are underway to nab the assistants, the OC added.
