DHAKA: Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma held a meeting with BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday night.

Kamalesh paid the courtesy call on Khaleda at her Gulshan political office at about 9:45pm where the meeting lasted till 11:15pm.

The one and half hour meeting discussed different sides of Bangladesh politics.

The commonwealth secretary general advised BNP to create such political situations, which will clear the way of holding free, fair and credible election, sources said. Kamalesh also promised Commonwealth’s help in holding a fair election.

On the other hand, Khaleda Zia informed Kamalesh Sharma about government action against opposition parties, violation of human rights, absence of rules of law, bar to opposition parties’ programme.

BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, BNP chairperson’s advisers Reaz Rahman and Sabihuddin Ahmed, among others, were present.
