COX’SBAZAR: Ruling Awami League’s (AL) Pekua Upazila unit president Shahabuddin Farazi was found dead in Borochhara cannel area of Tetong union of Cox’s Bazar district on Wednesday.

Being informed by locals, police recovered the body around 7:00am.

Police and family sources said the AL leader went to Borochhara Bazar area to attend arbitration on Tuesday evening. His mobile phone had been found switched off since 9:00pm. Then, he did not return home.

In the morning, locals informed police after noticing a body lying in Borochhara cannel area.

Pekua Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Abdur Rakib told banglanews that on information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body of Shahabuddin Farazi.

According to the OC, the AL leader might be strangled to death.

The process was underway to send the body to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
