DHAKA: In an apparent sharp contrast to party chief’s call for taking preparation for anti-government movement after eid vacation, BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed advised leaders and activists to hold patience for the next three years instead of going for any adventurism.

“Wait another three years. Don’t go for any adventurous decision. When the election will come, the people will give them a fit reply,” said the former law minister.

Party chief and ex-PM Khaleda Zia, now in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, at an iftar party with like-minded political parties in Dhaka made a call for the allies and the people to prepare for a united ‘oust-government’ movement after the current month of Ramadan.           

Moudud came up with his view at a discussion meeting at Engineers’ Institution auditorium, which was organised by Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University unit to mark the second anniversary of release of Tarique Rahman.
 
He alleged that the government has finalised all the mechanisms to control democracy.

“The government has been desperately trying to control democracy with all its mechanisms. But they don’t have any effort to control price spirals or misdeeds by party leaders and activists,” he said.

The attempts to destroy Ziaur Rahman’s family and the nationalist force, which began during the caretaker regime, are being carried through in a democratic regime, he lamented.

DAB leader Dr M Saiful Islam Selim chaired the discussion while former Dhaka University Vice-chancellor Dr Emajuddin Ahmed, DAB president Dr AKM Azizul Huq and Secretary-General Dr Zahid Hossain also spoke.
