RAJSHAHI: A court on Monday handed down life term imprisonment to a former secretary of Rajshahi University (RU) unit Islami Chhatra Shibir in an arms case.

Speedy Trial Tribunal judge of Rajshahi Golam Ahmed Khalilur Rahman passed the verdict against the Shibir leader, Saifuddin Yahiya.

In another case, the court also awarded the Shibir leader 10 years imprisonment in presence of the accused.

The summary case statement said a team of RAB-5 detained eight including, the then secretary of Islami Chhatra Shibir of RU unit from Malopara area of the town on September 27 of 2013.

Police also seized a foreign pistol and local weapons from him.

RAB DAD Altaf Hossain filed a case with Boalia police station of the city in this regard.

On October 31 of 2013, investigation officer of the case submitted charges against the Shibir leader, releasing seven others.
