DHAKA: A legal notice has been sent to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia asking her to apologize for her controversial remark on the number of martyrs in country’s war of independence in 1971.

Awami League (AL) executive committee member Momtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi and also former secretary of Supreme Court Bar Association sent the notice through registered mail on Wednesday.

Khaleda Zia has been asked to apologize before the nation withdrawing her remarks within seven days, he warned in the letter.

On Monday (December 21), Khaleda Zia said, “There are controversies over exactly how many freedom fighters were killed in the Liberation War”.

“There are also many books and documents on the controversies,” she added.
