DHAKA: A defamation suit has been lodged against BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy for his remarks about the martyred intellectuals.

Son of a martyred freedom fighter’s family and also Mercantile Bank Limited additional managing director Monindra Kumar Nath filed the lawsuit with the chief metropolitan magistrate (CMM) court of Dhaka on Thursday (January 21).

Gayeshwar, while addressing a discussion meeting in city on December 25 in 2015, said that they (intellectuals) died like stupid, and “a few more stupid like us places floral wreaths to commemorate them”.

If they (intellectuals) were so brilliant then why did they stay in their houses till December 14 of 1971, he added.
