DHAKA: A sedition case was filed against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia following her comment over the number of martyrs during country’s war of independence.
Supreme Court lawyer Momtaj Uddin Ahmed Mehedi filed the case with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court on Monday (January 25).
The hearing will be held at the court of metropolitan magistrate Rashed Talukder.
Earlier on Sunday, Home ministry has given approval to file a sedition case against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia following her comment over the number of martyrs during country’s war of independence.
However, banglanews had also received a copy of the letter.
Earlier on December 21, 2015, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia at a rally of freedom fighters commented that there is a controversy regarding the number of martyrs of country’s war of independence.
On December 23, Momtaj Uddin Ahmed sent a legal notice to withdraw her comment mentioning her mentality of ‘sedition’.
The lawyer later sought home ministry’s approval as he did not get any reply of the notice.
Khaleda’s lawyer and also Supreme Court Bar Association president Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain opined that there is nothing of sedition in BNP chief’s speech regarding the accurate number of martyrs.
