GAIBANDHA: Election Commission (EC) secretary Sirajul Islam said the Union Parishad (UP) polls will start in March.

The commission is prepared for this, he added.

The EC secretary made this assertion while talking to reporters during his visit at Gobindapur Upazila Server Station of Gaibandha district on Sunday.

He said the amended election rule of conduct has been sent to law ministry for approval.

The EC expects to arrange the UP polls in March and complete these by June, the secretary added.

Around 5 lakh government employees will remain involved during the elections and huge number of law enforcers will patrol the poll areas, he added.

Rangpur regional election officer Manirul Islam, Rangpur district election officer GM Sahatab Uddin, Gaibandha district election officer Shahinur Islam Pramanik and Palashbari upazila election officer Shahinur Alam, among others, were present.
