Kader Siddiqui nomination illegal

DHAKA: The High Court (HC) upheld the decision of the Election Commission (EC) that cancelled nomination paper of Kader Siddiqui in the by-polls of Tangail-4 constituency.

The bench of Justice M Ashraful Islam and Justice Zafar Ahmed passed the order on Thursday dismissing the writ petition filed by Kader Siddiqui.

On October 18, 2015 the EC dismissed Kader Siddiqui’s appeal against the cancellation of his nomination for Tangail-4 by-polls.

Earlier on Sunday (January 31), the same bench of HC heard the rule previously issued in response to the writ.

Earlier on October 21, the HC vacation bench of Justice Miftah Uddin Chowdhury and Justice Kazi M Ijarul Huq Akand asked the EC to accept nomination paper of Kader Siddiqui in by-polls of Tangail-4 constituency.

After rejection by the EC to get back candidacy, Krishak-Sramik-Janata League president Bangabir Kader Siddiqui filed a petition in the HC.

Later, the EC filed a petition seeking a stay on HC order that asked to accept the nomination paper of Krishak Sramik Janata League president for allowing him to contest the Tangail-4 by-polls.

After that, the Supreme Court issued a stay-order on holding by-election to the Tangail-4 constituency over the legality of Kader Siddiqui’s participation in it.
