DHAKA: Elections for 4,275 Union Parisads (UP) will be held in six phases, starting from March 22.

Election Commissioner (EC) Shah Newaz made the disclosure while talking to reporters at his office in Election Commission secretariat in city on Thursday (February 11).

He further said the upcoming UP election will be held in six phases.

In first phase, polls to 752 UPs to be held on March 22 while polls at 710 UPs on  March 31 in second phase, voting at 711 UPs on April 23, elections at 728 UPs on May 7 in fourth phase, elections at 714 UPs on May 28 and voting to rest of UPs will be held on June 4.

In 2011, last election in Union Parisads was held from March to June in several phases, he added.

The last date for submitting nomination papers is February 22 and the last date for withdrawing candidacy is March 2.
