DHAKA: Ruling Awami League (AL) has made its president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina the authority for recommending aspirants from the party for forthcoming Union Parisad elections.

AL information and research affairs secretary Afzal Hossian informed the matter to reporters at Election Commission (EC) secretariat in city on Monday (February 15).

As per law, participating parties have to submit names of the persons to the EC. The persons will recommend party candidates for Union Parisad elections.

In the letter to the EC, AL said that party president Sheikh Hasina’s recommendation will be needed for party aspirates during submission of nominations for the upcoming elections.

AL leaders Sujit Roy Nandi and SM Kamal were also present at the time.

In the six-phase election, voting in 752 Union Parisads will be held on March 22.
