DHAKA: The nationwide dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh protesting the Supreme Court verdict that upheld death penalty to war criminal Mir Quasem Ali, is underway on Wednesday without any untoward incident.
From different spots of the city, Banglanews correspondents reported that poor number of private and microbus were seen plying city thoroughfare since morning. Pulic transport bus and human haulers is plying but poor in the number.
Besides, no picketing, procession of Jamaat-e-islami or its student wing was not reported from elsewhere
Hours after the apex court verdict on Tuesday, the party called the shutdown for Wednesday demanding release of all of its leaders, detained for war crimes.
Earlier, SC Appellate Division upheld the death penalty of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem Ali for his war crimes committed during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.
