DHAKA: As many as 25 candidates of ruling Awami League (AL) were elected uncontested in as many union parishads (UP) in the third phase of UP elections.

Sources from the election commission (EC) confirmed the matter to banglanews.

A field report, coordinated by EC on Thursday (April 7), said there are no candidates from BNP in 81 union parishads out of 620 in the third phase of UP polls.

Voting of the third phase is scheduled to be held on April 23.

Earlier, as many as 54 and 34 candidates of AL were elected uncontested in the first and second phase of UP polls respectively.
