DHAKA: BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed threatened tougher action against the government if senior journalist Shafik Rehman and Gazipur mayor MA Mannan are not freed.

The BNP leader uttered the threat at a press conference held at party central office in city’s Nayapaltan area on Saturday (April 16).

Rizvi said that Shafik Rehman had been arrested to cover up the failure of the government.

‘We, who are fighting for revival of democracy in the country, are not safe. People, who are writing against the misdeeds of the government, are also unsafe.’

According to the BNP senior leader Shafik Rehman is the latest victim of government’s repression.

He also demanded the government to release the arrestees immediately or face tougher action.
