PABNA: A local unit Awami League (AL) leader was shot to death by his opponents in Gayeshpur Union of Sadar upazila in the district on Sunday (May 22).

The deceased was identified as Abdur Rahim (35), son of Jamshed Biswas and also nephew of Union Parishad (UP) member candidate Amzad Hossain.

He was shot due to political dispute among candidates centering UP election.

Pabna Sadar Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Abdullah Al Hasan said that there was a conflict between Rahim and his opponent candidate Mollah. When Rahim was sitting in a tea stall at Poyda Bazar, Mollah shot him in the morning.

Locals rescued the victim, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital, the OC added.
