DHAKA: The election of nine municipalities of the country will be held on May 25 and the Election Commission (EC) issued a ban on any types of publicity from Tuesday (May 24) 12:00am.
EC election management branch assistant secretary Rajib Ahsan said the election will be held in Ghorashal and Raypura of Narshigdi district; Laxmipur of Laxmipur district; Kasba of Brahmanbaria; Noakhali, Senbagh of Noakhali; Chhagalnaiya of Feni; Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar and Ramgarh of Khagrachhari district.
In the election, 21 candidates will fight under party support and five will compete independently for mayor position and 315 candidates will fight for general member position and 70 for reserve seats.
However, Teknaf mayor candidate and eights member candidates of Ghorashal and Kasba municipalities have been selected without competition.
A total of 3,13,691 voters can practice their franchise in 133 polling centers.
Moreover, the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), police and ansers have been deployed ahead of election.
The voting materials will be sent to the centers on Tuesday (May 24).
