DHAKA: The fifth phase election of 729 Union Parishads (UPs) will be held on Saturday (May 28) from 8:00am to 4:00pm.

According to the election management branch of Election Commission (EC), there are 726 candidates from AL, 629 from BNP, 177 from JP who will flight in the election. A total of 1,527 candidates will compete independently.

However, 42 candidates of AL have been elected without competition.

At least two lakh force members from RAB, police, BGB and Ansar have been deployed to maintain law and security of the election areas, the EC added.

The commission further said the election in around 4,500 UPs has been held in six phases. The last phase is scheduled to be held on June 4.
