MEHERPUR: Younger brother of a local BNP leader was allegedly chopped to death by rival groups over a longstanding clash in Gangni upazila of Meherpur district early Monday (October 3).

The deceased was identified as Abul Khair, 35, younger brother of Gangni municipality panel mayor Insarul Haque Insu, also former general secretary of municipality unit BNP.

Quoting family members and local people, Gangni police station officer-in-charge (OC) Anwar Hossain told Banglanews that assailants chopped Abul Khair indiscriminately and cut his tendons around 9:30 pm on Sunday.

Family members rushed him to Gangni Upazila Health Complex. Later, the injured was shifted to Kushtia Medical College Hospital where he died under treatment around 4:00 am, he added.

OC Anwar Hossain said police is trying to detain the persons involved in the murder.
